Chinese Hackers Weaponize Claude Code for Autonomous Espionage
In mid-September 2025, Anthropic’s security team noticed odd activity in their Claude Code tool, a system meant to help developers with coding tasks. This task decomposition let the AI run 80-90% of the operation independently, as Anthropic estimated. At its peak, it fired off thousands of requests, sometimes multiple per second—speeds no human team could match.
